Boat trip from Lorient

Cruise from Lorient, one of the most beautiful cruises in Morbihan

Fancy a boat trip from Lorient? Discover one of the most beautiful cruises in Morbihan to see Southern Brittany from the sea and enjoy a deep breath of sea air.

Cruise details and itinerary

How does the cruise go?

The sky is clear, the wind has died down… it’s the perfect day for a sea escape. Head to the Lorient ferry terminal to board a boat to Groix. The crossing includes a beautiful 45-minute cruise before reaching your destination.

What will you see along the way?

The Lorient roadstead is full of wonders. Whether from recent or ancient history, different eras intertwine here to form a truly unique mosaic. From the sea, you get the best view of these treasures.

Just minutes into the boat ride, you’ll understand why Lorient is called “The City of Six Ports”.

You begin by calmly gliding down the Blavet River, passing the commercial port with its metal cranes unloading goods from the belly of a massive ship. Then comes the fishing port, which supplies Merville’s renowned fish market with fresh catches.

Next, you reach Saint-Michel Island, a military zone shrouded in mystery in the middle of the roadstead. The island faces the submarine base, a relic of World War II that withstood a deluge of Allied fire without crumbling.

A symbol of successful redevelopment, this place of darkness is now home to the Cité de la Voile and an offshore racing hub. Some of the ocean’s giants patiently await their moment along the docks, ready to break new records and write a new chapter in French sailing history.

Further on, another era, another vibe. When the Kingdom of France ruled the seas, the East India Company opened new maritime routes, bringing with them exotic flavors and aromas. The Port-Louis citadel bears witness to this golden age that enriched a handful of shipowners.

To starboard, you leave the shores of Larmor-Plage and its elegant villas behind to head out to sea. It’s not uncommon to be joined by dolphins, eager to escort you part of the way to Groix.

The ocean is now wide open before you.

As you approach Groix, you can imagine the tuna boats that once crossed paths here. The 45-minute crossing nears its end, but the adventure is far from over.
