Île de Groix

Thanks to BreizhGo Océane, the southern Brittany islands boating company, head to the Île de Groix - the garnet island! Step aboard one of our boats departing from Lorient’s marina, and head to Saint Tudy port after a short, pleasant crossing. Groix is accessible every day of the year thanks to our daily crossings, whether you wish to stay just for the day, for a weekend or even several days to discover the island.

CROSSING FROM LORIENT TO GROIX, A HISTORICALLY-RICH ISLAND TO BE EXPLORED ALL YEAR ROUND

The cruise starts by crossing Lorient’s harbour, giving you a fantastic view of the Port-Louis citadel to your left – a valiant guard protecting the city – and of the Larmor-Plage beaches and sumptuous late 19th-century villas to your right. Having left channel, the fresh air on your face will signal your entrance into the Atlantic Ocean. The Île de Groix will then become visible from afar.

After a 45-minute crossing on board one of our boats, you will step out in Port-Tudy – a former leading tuna fishing port and now a highly-acclaimed marina. In this typical Breton port lined with colourful houses and small shops, the locals busy themselves with their day-to-day activities, and fishing and sailing boats come in and out of the harbour.

  • 1 departure ferry terminal in Lorient
  • 45 minutes to cross from Lorient to Saint-Tudy
  • 5 return trips a day from September to June
  • 6 to 9 return trips a day in July and August

GROIX IS IDEAL FOR A DAY TRIP OR FOR STAYING SEVERAL DAYS TO EXPLORE

Every day of the year, BreizhGo Océane takes passengers to this natural, well-preserved treasure – which its 2,360 inhabitants love to share.

Whether on foot or by bike, travel round the island in just a day using the coastal hiking paths or special bike trails. If you wish to stay several days, you will have time to stop off in the island’s remarkable sites and enjoy the Grands Sables beach to the North-East of Groix.
