Let’s act together for the environment of the Morbihan islands

10 November 2022

We are committed to continuing our mission of serving the islands of Morbihan while adopting a more environmentally responsible approach, especially for the islands we serve.

Therefore, we wish to join the Green Friday movement, born out of concern for the environmental impacts of the overconsumption associated with the traditional Black Friday, which this year takes place on November 25. Through this, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the environment.

WITH ITS TRAVELLERS, COMPAGNIE OCEANE JOINS THE GREEN FRIDAY MOVEMENT

Deeply concerned about preserving the islands it serves, Compagnie Océane is determined to act with the support of its travellers to protect the natural heritage of Groix, Belle-Île-en-Mer, Houat and Hoëdic.
These island territories are fragile and home to many endangered animal species, especially seabirds. All year round, we raise awareness among our travellers about good practices to adopt during their stay on the islands.

Houat et Hoëdic, îles refuges pour les oiseaux marins

To go even further, we are participating this year in Green Friday on November 25 to turn our environmental commitment into concrete action. On that day, 10% of our revenue* will be donated to an environmental protection organization.
By travelling to the Morbihan islands on this third Friday of November, you actively contribute to the protection of the Breton islands’ environment.
Whichever destination you choose—Belle-Île-en-Mer, Houat, Hoëdic or Groix—you’ll enjoy them just as much in the low season.

BRETAGNE VIVANTE AND THE ISLANDS OF MORBIHAN

Bretagne Vivante is an environmental association that has been active for over 60 years. Present in all departments of the Brittany region, it is the main environmental NGO in mainland Brittany, and also works on Belle-Île-en-Mer, Houat, Hoëdic, and Groix, where it manages the François Le Bail National Nature Reserve. On the islands we serve, it helps with the reproduction of protected species and the preservation of the most threatened elements of island biodiversity.

BRETAGNE VIVANTE AND COMPAGNIE OCEANE: A PARTNERSHIP FOR THE ISLANDS

Compagnie Océane has already carried out several environmental actions in partnership with Bretagne Vivante. In 2022, we co-organized a beach clean-up on the island of Houat with the participation of around 100 of our passengers, recovering more than 2,000 pieces of waste and transporting them back to the mainland.

Also, during the summer season, the association had the opportunity to raise awareness among travellers during crossings between Quiberon – Houat – Hoëdic about the threats facing seabirds of the Houat-Hoëdic archipelago.

Bretagne Vivante has supported us throughout this year in our environmental actions. That is why we have decided to make our Green Friday donation to this association.

* This percentage applies only to full-price passenger tickets for crossings from the mainland to the islands.
