La Compagnie Océane will take you on a journey to discover or rediscover the beautiful island of Hoëdic, departing from the pier in Quiberon.
After crossing over from Quiberon, stopping off in Houat, and navigating through the Passage des Soeurs (Sisters’ Passage, a corridor between Houat and Hoëdic), you will anchor in Port-d’Argol – a charming little port, home to half a dozen fishing boats. The simple village centre will welcome you with open arms at the top of the sandy hill. The exceptional and well-preserved natural environment, as well as the kind and warm welcome received by locals, bestows upon Hoëdic a generous yet simple quality that makes visitors feel right at home…
Hoëdic is a slightly-raised and fairly flat plateau. Given its moderate size, you can see the sea from practically anywhere on the island!
Fancy living la dolce vita on Tahiti Beach? The beaches on Hoëdic are akin to the most beautiful lagoons with their white sand and turquoise waters. They will make you feel like you have travelled to the other side of the world. This tiny piece of land is amazingly calm. No cars are allowed, people only move around on foot. On Hoëdic, nothing is far and most importantly, no one is in a hurry! Go for a stroll along its many paths and through its lush nature, so rich in colours and scents. If you get a whiff of curry, you have no doubt come across a patch of helichrysum stoechas – known as the everlasting flower. Head straight to the Maison Perdue or Vieux-Château point – the island’s wildest. There, the rocks are covered in lichen and the ocean is breath-taking…even more so at sunset! Once back from your walk, you may enjoy going for a drink in a local café. There are four in the village, all just at welcoming as the next. They contribute to the island’s charm. Tempted? Hoëdic makes for a great day-trip whatever the season. In the spring and summer, discover a beautiful array of colours, as well as rare and intoxicating smells. You will find yourself in the heart of a garden with the ocean alone as a boundary. During the autumn, the cropped inland heath scattered here and there with marshes and small lakes is draped in golden hues. Once the summer’s holiday-makers have headed back home, enjoying the pleasant temperatures and sometimes deserted beaches is a real delight! This being said, the winter months on the island are tough, with crashing waves and strong winds. When the wind blows, Hoëdic stands out against the white bubbling hazy sea. For any visitors brave enough to venture out onto the sea-sprayed lands, you will be amazed by the island’s intact and wild natural environment. Captivating!
