What to Do in Quiberon Before Taking the Boat

04 November 2025

The Quiberon Peninsula is the perfect place to enjoy relaxation, nature, and the sea before taking the boat to the islands. Whether you’re stopping over or setting off for a crossing, your day here can be both rich and varied. Here’s what to do in Quiberon before boarding for Belle-Île, Houat, or Hoëdic with BreizhGo Océane.

What to Do in Quiberon Upon Arrival: First Discoveries

Before reaching the town itself, begin your discovery with the beaches of the peninsula. The long Penthièvre beach stretches between ocean and bay — an ideal spot for surfers, sunbathers gazing at the horizon, or early risers admiring the sunrise.

What to Do on the Wild Coast: Landscapes and Emotions

We recommend arriving in Quiberon via the Wild Coast. Along this spectacular route, cliffs, coves, and marine panoramas gradually reveal the full beauty of the peninsula.

Hikers can follow the coastal path (GR34), a breathtaking route before reaching the seaside resort and port. Arriving via the Wild Coast is already experiencing Quiberon’s natural grandeur.

What to Do in Quiberon Town: Wandering, Delicacies, and Market Life

The town center of Quiberon gathers all the charm of a lively seaside resort. On Saturday mornings, the Hoche Square market overflows with local products: crêpes, kouign-amann, seafood, and Breton cheeses. Continue with a stroll through the shopping streets or visit the Maison d’Armorine, where the famous Niniches of Quiberon are made.

About a 30-minute walk from the center, you’ll find one of Quiberon’s prettiest spots: Port Haliguen. At the end of the day, enjoy a beautiful sunset over the moored sailboats.

What to Do Before Boarding for the Islands

Quiberon is also the departure point for crossings to the Morbihan islands.
From the Port Maria ferry terminal, BreizhGo Océane ships operate year-round sailings to:

  • Belle-Île-en-Mer, the largest of the Breton islands. Le Palais (the island’s main port) is 50 minutes away, and Sauzon (the secondary port) 30 minutes away via the summer line.

  • Houat Island, a preserved gem with white sandy beaches.

  • Hoëdic Island, the smaller, wild, and peaceful sister of Houat.

👉 Before boarding, take time to stroll along the Grande Plage, watch the ferries dock, or enjoy a coffee on the terrace. The port atmosphere of Quiberon is lively and authentic, especially in summer.
