Come and discover the Île de Houat thanks to La Compagnie Océane!
Just 14 km off the coast of Quiberon, and 8 km away from its little sister Hoëdic, Houat and its towering granite cliffs stand in crystal-clear waters.
You will be welcomed to Port-Saint-Gildas after a 40-minute crossing from Quiberon! You will come across brightly-coloured fishing boats and a myriad of fishing traps as you walk up the hill to the charming village of Houat.
The Île de Houat can be explored in a day, either on foot or by bike, following the coastal path. Houat is a true haven of peace: there are no cars on the island!
Colourful boat hulls, mounds of fishing traps along the docks, blue-shuttered houses, lush green nature and granite cliffs. Houat… else! The island is a highly authentic place, perfect for a change of scenery. You will no doubt enjoy strolling through the village’s little streets, lined with hollyhock. To the East, the magnificent sheltered beach of Treac’h-er-Goured is perfect for a tranquil swim. Though the water may be a little cool, it is also crystal-clear. Heading to the West of the island, offering a wilder landscape with rolling hills, you may happen upon one of the area’s beautiful coves, hidden away in between the cliffs. To get there, you can either walk down the coastal path, or ride down on your bike. Remember to pack a picnic! Make sure you are back in time to see the fishermen come back to Saint-Gildas port. A must-see! Wait no longer and book your ticket for a day trip to remember on the island of Houat.

The sun can be strong out on Houat, and there is very little shade. Remember to pack the essentials: a sun hat, sunglasses and sun cream. You may find a spot of shade down in the vale, where the picnic tables are. Make sure to bring good shoes with you, as walking is the only option. Hiking shoes are however not essential! In fact, if they are too cumbersome, they could even pose a threat to the local flora and dunes. Keep that in mind!
If you fancy it, you could carry on your adventure on the island of Hoëdic – Houat’s little sister – which is just as charming.
