Looking back at the waste collection day in Houat
02 March 2022
Saturday, February 26, 2022, Compagnie Océane, together with the Bretagne Vivante association and the town hall of Houat, co-organised a beach clean-up day on the island of Houat.
A meaningful crossing
This initiative brought together nearly a hundred participants who boarded the Melvan early in the morning. Bretagne Vivante led an awareness session during the crossing to inform passengers about the dangers of waste on island territories, particularly its impact on local wildlife and vegetation.
An eco-citizen action
Participants were divided into three groups to clean up three beaches on the island of Houat: the Grande Plage, Salus beach, and another beach located on the southern part of the island. Each group was provided with different bags to enable waste sorting, as well as data sheets to record the types of waste collected. Working in teams until late morning, the volunteers cleaned the beaches of Houat under a beautiful blue sky.

Summary of the day
Over 2,000 pieces of waste were collected and brought back to the mainland for processing.
Many thanks to all the participants, Bretagne Vivante, and the Town Hall of Houat for this wonderful day.
