A Day on Houat
12 June 2024
From Quiberon, set off on an unforgettable and unique getaway: head to Houat.
As soon as the ferry departs, let yourself be enchanted by stunning scenery. In just 40 minutes, you’ll arrive at the charming Port of Saint-Gildas.
Activities for a Perfect Day
What can you do during your day on Houat?
Walk Around the Island
On Houat, there are no cars. To enjoy the island’s pristine nature, nothing beats a walk along the coastal paths. You can walk all the way around the island in about 4.5 hours. Along the way, you’ll be treated to magnificent sandy beaches, sheltered coves, and breathtaking landscapes.
Houat blooms in every season. Blue thistles, sea pinks, and sea lilies thrive here, sheltered from the wind by Belle-Île. The archipelago is part of the Natura 2000 network, with particularly remarkable flora and fauna. The Houat–Hoëdic archipelago, dotted with small islets, is home to important colonies of seabirds that stop over, rest, and breed. During your visit, please respect these protected species by following environmentally responsible practices.
Visit the Eclosarium and Discover the Village
Discover the Eclosarium, located southwest of the village in a gentle hollow by the sea. Open from May to September, this space is both a museum dedicated to the oceans, the island, and its history, and a seasonal exhibition venue. Be sure to stop by the shop to explore their marine-based cosmetic products.
To end your day, there’s nothing better than a stroll through the picturesque village, with its lovely white houses clustered around the church overlooking the small port.

Beaches and Coves to Explore
The Houat-Hoëdic archipelago is known for its magnificent white sandy beaches and turquoise waters—a true slice of paradise in Brittany!
Trearc’h Er Goured Beach, located on the east side of the island, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brittany. Its white sand forms a sweeping arc scattered with countless seashells. There’s plenty of room, as the beach stretches over more than 2 kilometres!
The coves at the rocky point of En Tal, located at the southern end of Trearc’h Er Goured Beach, mark the spot where the island’s main port once stood.
Where to Taste Local Specialties
After exploring the island’s 17 km of coastal trails, you’ll find several restaurants where you can enjoy delicious seafood or traditional Breton crêpes. In the low season, be sure to check opening days in advance:
Restaurant des Îles
Crêperie Chez Loulou
Restaurant La Sirène
L’Atelier du Kraken
Restaurant Ty Cathy
You can also bring your own picnic to enjoy on Trearc’h Er Goured Beach. Don’t forget to opt for a zero-waste picnic—or take your trash back with you to the mainland!
